Benevolence

In addition to building homes (and holding a House Blessing in which the recipients enjoy hand-made quilts, a photo album of those who worked on their home and their notes of prayers, an engraved Bible, and a home-care notebook), providing backpacks filled with school supplies prior to the start of each school year, fleece blankets and Christmas stockings just prior to the Christmas holidays, the benevolence ARMS of this ministry are innumerable!

When we grieve the loss of loved ones on the Reservation, a Wake is held prior to the funeral when many mourn, and much food is consumed.  ARM provides food, flowers, hugs and prayers.

For many on this Reservation, the refrigerator empties before the month ends.  When appropriate, we provide food, diapers, etc.

Clothing is only distributed when a Family Fun Day is held in a particular neighborhood (4-8 are held each year.)  At that time, we will only provide sorted, cleaned and seasonally-appropriate attire.

Baby clothing, diapers, etc. are needed year-round!  One partner has assumed the blessed task of creating Baby Gift Bags for us to give to help a new mother celebrate the arrival of her baby.  These bags contain new clothing, a blanket, diapers and more.

How can you help?

  • We need gift cards to Wal-Mart, Safeway, Fry’s or Basha’s food stores so that they can get the food they would want. (Or, we can shop for those without transportation and deliver it to them.)
  • Diapers, formula and diaper wipes are in constant need.
  • The appliance required during a particular season to create a more comfortable home is ALWAYS a need! This includes window air-conditoners in the summer time (May-October) and space heaters during the winter months (November-March.)
  • Each October, the Tribe’s Wellness Center holds a “Share the Warmth” event.  We would love to assist with this event by providing coats, pajamas, and other winter items that are in great condition for those who will have difficulty staying warm during winter months that even hold a few “snow days.”
